| | Raphael Grzebieta Engineering and Road Crash Reconstruction Disciplines Raphael Grzebieta is the immediate past President of the Australasian College of Road Safety and is the Chair of Road Safety at the Injury Risk Management Research Centre at the University of New South Wales. Before moving to UNSW he headed up a road-safety & crashworthiness research team for 25 years in the Civil Engineering Department at Monash University where he published over 160 papers in structural crashworthiness research, accident investigation, failure analysis, numerical modelling and experimental crash testing. He is also a member of and contributes to a number of road safety, editorial and national and international standards committees. His research team carried out over 35 crash tests and numerous computer modelling and theoretical studies investigating and mitigating injuries in truck under-run, far-side impact, roll-over and roadside barrier crashes. Raphael has also carried out numerous accident reconstruction analyses and has acted as an expert for insurance companies, legal firms, and for criminal and coronial inquests. Contact email: r.grzebieta@unsw.edu.au | | | | Ray Shuey, APM Enforcement/Road Safety Education Ray Shuey is a trainer and adviser in international road safety providing best practice solutions and road safety strategies to meet jurisdictional needs. He has had 41 years policing experience and is a former Assistant Commissioner in Victoria having held that executive position for fourteen years until July 2003. During his police career, he has had broad experience as a senior executive in strategic traffic enforcement, benchmarking and target road safety profiling complemented by the effective use of technology and intelligence to achieve objectives. In his current role, he has designed and delivered police training programs in the United Arab Emirates, China, Malaysia and Cambodia as well as providing road safety keynote presentations and facilitated workshops in many other countries. He is a principal author to the World Health Organisations Road Safety Manual for Decision Makers on "Drinking and Driving" and a contributing author to other good practice manuals on "Speed Management" and "Helmets". He has also undertaken risk management reviews for many government organisations with outsourced services recommending practical solutions and proactive risk management controls. Ray is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, a Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration Australia and an Associate Fellow of the Australasian College of Road Safety. He is a senior associate of the Australian Road Research Board, a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and a member of the International Police Association. Ray holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Post Graduate Diploma of Criminology and is currently undertaking his research doctorate PhD in benchmarking traffic law enforcement. He has been awarded the Australian Police Medal for distinguished police service and in July 2004 was presented with an award for outstanding service to road safety in Victoria by the Ministerial Council for Road Safety. Contact Email:www.strategicsafety.com.au | | | | Associate Professor Rebecca Ivers Research and Evaluation Associate Professor Ivers is the Director of the Injury Division at The George Institute for International Health. She is a Conjoint Associate Professor in the School of Public Health at The University of Sydney. Dr Ivers has substantial expertise in the area of large scale population based studies in road injury. She is the lead investigator on the DRIVE Study, a cohort study involving 20,822 novice drivers, and is also a chief investigator on a recently funded large case-control study investigating heavy vehicle crashes in NSW, Queensland and WA. Dr Ivers has published widely in the road safety and public health literature, including chapters on program evaluation in WHO/World Bank/Global Road Safety Partnership facilitated road safety manuals, and is a recognised expert, both locally and internationally, in the field of road safety. She leads research projects in the area of indigenous road safety in NSW, is a member of the Australian Government Indigenous Road Safety Working Group and has experience working in both urban and remote parts of the Territory. All driver theory education delivered by Maureen involves driver attitudes, the development of defensive driving techniques as well as basic skills needed to operate a vehicle not only in remote areas but when travelling and driving in the cities. Maureen facilitates the Drink Driver Education Program, a unique set of competencies derived for offenders within the Northern Territory, in remote and urban areas. In practical terms Maureen has been a qualified training facilitator working with both indigenous and non-indigenous clients in both urban and remote area situations since 1986 in the Northern Territory, and is currently working with a political party to develop sound driver safety and road safety strategies for future implementation. Steven's extensive experience within Victoria Police spans 28 years, including specialised duties at the Prosecutions Divisions, Traffic Camera Office, Strategic Policy & Road Safety Information Group and the Vehicle Impoundment Unit. He has been involved in numerous projects including the Victoria Police "Tyre Deflation Device Project" and "Operation Countdown Multi-Media Mobile Display Vehicle Project". He was an organising committee member for the 2007 "Australasian Road Safety, Research, Policing and Education Conference" and an organising committee member for the 2008 "Saferoads 2008 Conference". She holds a Masters degree in Social Science from Dalhousie University, Canada, and a Bachelors degree in Sociology and Government from Eastern Washington University, USA. Lori has been working in road safety for more than 20 years. She worked as a senior road safety policy and program manager for the RTA, NSW from 1989 until 2000, ultimately filling the role of General Manager, Road Safety. And in 1998 presided over the NSW government road safety program that achieved the lowest road fatality record since 1949. The road safety strategy she developed for the years 2000-2010 achieved road levels that rival the world’s best performing countries. Lori was the Project Manager for the production of a Global Good Practice Manual on Speed Management, co-sponsored by the World Health Organisation, World Bank, FIA Foundation and Global Road Safety Partnership. She is the Chair of the Work-related Road Safety Project Group of the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC), Member, Road Traffic Injury Researchers Network (RTIRN) and is Secretary of the Sydney Chapter of the Australasian College of Road Safety (ACRS). Lori has also been the Fleet Safety 'topic expert' and has co-led a series of Fleet Safety Benchmarking Workshops with participants from over 100 companies, since March, 2004. Since joining the Injury Risk Management Research Centre, she has established a research program that aims to develop and test safety management systems and interventions to improve work related road safety, particularly in heavy vehicle transport operations.
